Rites of Spring - End On End (1985)

They kick ass and crush your modest mouse dreams.  End On End.  Washington D.C. early discord punk rock with thought out lyrics that will make you want to escape from the park police at Pulaski while kickfliping over the wall in fashion.  Dreams of youth that carry on into adulthood is what this album symbolizes for me personally.

Corpsessed - Abysmal Thresholds (2014)

Finland's hell seekers Corpsessed created this very heavy, very dark, demonic golden child named "Abysmal Thresholds".  Brand spanking new on the market brought to us by an amazing record label (Dark Descent) and I cannot wait to grab this piece of the underworld on vinyl.  Corpsessed sleighs an extremely undertoned vocal performance, while the rest of the band holds your head beneath the murky slime in this wet, damp, nightmare.  Fans of Psuedogod, I ensure you that this will please your ears.  I know this might be early to say but "Abysmal Thresholds" really possesses my ears and I may have fallen in love.  One of my tops of 2014 already.

Bubble Poppy - A Gathering of Promises (1969)

Hey man, Far out...This album rules.  I mean just look at these guys, if their music doesn't carry them their looks sure will.  Bubble Poppy is a psych rock band from Texas that just plays flat out good ol' rock.  Guitar rhythms that create a sense of posture with a hollowed drum sound to give you the groovin goolies bumps and sounds of a classic 60's vocal range to put you fifty year old's right back in your mama's womb.  I've had this on mp3 for quite sometime now but today, had the privilege to pick it up and the DC Record Fair and "A Gathering of Promises" rehashed itself with me.  This is just a great listen.  Nothing to psych, not to heavy, just an all around satisfying piece of history....with excellent guitars.

Teenage Cool Kids - Denton After Sunset (2011)

These guys started off on a breezy summer afternoon in Denton, Texas. After putting out two other records, it wasn't until they released their third album "Denton After Sunset" till I took a real notice.  This LP is a masterpiece from start to finish with sounds of passion, sincerity and an over all sunbathed warmth that brings a smile to my eardrums.  I suggest you go skate and feel the smooth ground under your board while this jem is calming your nerves.  Personally I think this album should be listened during sunset no matter what the Teenage Cool Kids say.  Haha.  Do not know much about these guys but musically they created one hell of a story.  Two thumbs up!

Tsjuder - Desert Northern Hell (2004)

Thanks to TombsofMetal, I got another Blasphemous raise of hell created by Norway's Tsjuder.  This LP came out in 2004 but was recently released again (2013) by Season of Mist.  Their style of nihilistic black metal tears apart from the commercial bullshit and lands them safely into Satan's arms.  The guitar and drum speed create a sense of "going plaid" and the ugliness of the vocals dominate your thought process to give you an all natural blackout.  I hope these dudes never put out a lousy album, they haven't disappointed me yet.

VEE DEE - Furthur (2004)

These Chicago party animals kick out some serious riffs.  VEE DEE demonstrates to us that underground rock and roll rules all.  This is a fun ass album that needs to be cranked up at your next beer fused party, preferably a Halloween party, because the singer has this haunting style that sounds like a ghoulish Danzing.  With a dirty guitar sound that screeches out solos every song, fuzzed bass line and a punk drum beat "Furthur" is a great release from your stressful work week.  Cheers.

Blues Creation - Demon and Eleven Children (1971)

Somehow I am 43 years late on this blues/psych rock goddess.  Blues Creation (Japan) created this demonic, riff infused shotgun in August of 1971 that in my opinion could still blow 80 percent of musicians, nowadays, out of their radio dazed trance.  Demon and Eleven Children should be the poster child for early heavy metal.  This came out only a year after Sabbath released their s/t and before Pentagram released anything, blows my mind.  In 1975 under the name "Creation" they toured the U.S. sharing the road with Mountain which is a musicians wet dream.  When listening, dreams of my Ford Club Wagon (82) come back reminding me of when my friends and I would go skating at dawn with beers, girls, joints and grills.  All around a satisfiying listen for any summer day.  Warning, you will suddenly have long hair after one listen. Also, if anyone has their LP with Carmen Maki, send it this way!

Garbage Pants - Sour Party (2013)

Sinking in Maryland's sub-pump there is a diverse solo artist creating some DIY basement racket.  These songs vary from giving you a headache to pleasing the musician inside yourself with wanting to correct the missed beats and over-clipped vocals.  You can hear a wide range of influences which makes for a curious listen but can feel the passion placed into this self release.  The artwork is super rad and hope this dude keeps it up.

The County Medical Examiners - Olidous Operettas (2007)

Geeeez where can I begin with one of my favorite bands in this scene.  First, Corpse Scented Disc.  Second, all members have their MD in medical school.  Third, known to have never played live shows.  Fourth, Dr. Guy Radcliffe(bass/vocals)looks like hes 60 years old.  The County Medical Examiners are a fright train of Carcass fulled Death Metal playing music they love and respect.  The lyrics themselves are ingenious and merciless.  Olidous Operettas takes the term "death metal" literally and I hope these guys wake my corpse up in the morgue.

Dawn - Slaughtersun (1998)

Forging through the Swedish lake of flames Dawn gives us this melodic masterpiece named "Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy)".  Third and final album which consisted members of Dissection, Retaliation and Cranium.  Such a powerful album from front to back with a striving essence of solidarity, it almost seems as they knew that this would be their last.  The riffs are heavy with intelligence, matching the drums to create this soothed mental journey while the scorched vocals bite back ferociously to bring you home to reality.  Do not try to watch a movie with this playing, shit will not work, I haven't looked up once.
