Ecstasy of Gold - 25 Killer Bullets From the Spaghetti West Vol.3 (1960/70's) (2013

The third ride through the desert with with our Italian friends making such great music.  "The Ecstasy of Gold" is jam-packed with all your western favorites, well, you may have never heard of them, but now they are.  These songs signal out from Italian artists/composers around the 1960's and 1970's that cater to western movie soundtracks and in my age and time seem to cater to the style of Tarantino movies.  Excellent arrangement here with the amount of musicianship put into this compilation. You can respect and almost visualize the whole "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" film, amongst others, right before your eyes.  This style of thoughtful western/desert music pleases me gratefully and I suggest a bandanna and a cigarette, f-off cigars.  Listen To Spindrift.

Catacombs - In the Depths of R'lyeh (2006)

Such a haunting album starting off, to finish, with guttural vocals and a repetitive guitar riffs that traps you in a cocoon of your own nightmares.  Catacombs established himself from Arizona in 2000 and "In the Depths of R'lyeh" is the second coffin maker he has released.  What an overwhelming source of heaviness within each song pulling you deeper into the soil, sand, or in my case...the couch.  It might be a little weird to how comfortable this album makes me feel with the casket of musk it lays through my head, but the songs are real long and I know that I cannot be the only one that feels this way.  Definitely not a fast paced by any means, but I have so much music that I put on strictly for the mood that I am in and Catacombs can be slumped into my "bed-metal" or "listening on headphones and drinking a beer while my girlfriend studies-metal".  Devastating stuff from Xathagorra Mlandroth and I bet the next album will succeed this one and hope, in my opinion, the pace picks up alittle too.

Wipers - Over The Edge (1983)

Woke up this morning and the first thing I did was put on this album, made breakfast, coffee, did the dishes and then replayed "Over The Edge"...it is that good.  Wipers are a three piece from Portland,Oregon and they played some great punk rock to knock the flannels right off your back before even put them on.  Expect nothing-less then superb guitar work on this LP with tone changes and backing distortion that scream solidarity with vocals carry over that lazy punk attitude, into a nice post-punk vision.  These guys come highly recommended from idols like Nirvana, Melvins, Dinosaur Jr and Poison Idea so you know they have something going on.  "Over The Edge" is the Wipers third release and next time I head back to the record shop I am going to pick up one of their first two releases.  Do not sleep even longer on this band.

Juan Wauters - N.A.P. (2014)

Relaxing in a sense of walking around Queens NY, in the rain, by yourself, on a Sunday with an umbrella.  Juan Wauters (The Beets) plays a real cozy, minimalist style of garage/folk that does not strike a great amount of excitement but is somehow hard to turn off.  In my opinion "North American Poetry" is an album that I would put on when that specific mood is right, such as, sitting in a room with a bunch of people and not wanting to say a word.  Reminds me of this band Normanoak, with a little more "sunlight", I dig it and have a feeling these tracks will grow on me like a wild fern.  So pick up this sweet LP over at Captured Tracks Records and drink a cappuccino.
